So you are about to have the most important day of your lives. A wedding, that beautiful day we all dream of one day happening. You want, and should have, this day to be perfect. There is so much planning and organizing to do. After you have picked your perfect mate the most important thing is your wedding photographer, reception venue and ceremony location. They say “a picture is worth a thousand words” and what yours says depends on the photographer that you hire. There is a difference between photographers, they all shoot differently and provide different service and style of capture.
Probably the best place to start is with family and friends, people whose opinions you trust. If you know a recent newlywed this is also a perfect choice. Everybody knows someone so hopefully they will have someone to recommend. You may also check your local newspapers and phonebook. The internet is also a great place to start as you can do this from home. Keep in mind this wedding will only happen once, so you only have one chance to capture the moment. So it is crucial you find the best photographer to capture your special occasion. Personally I would only choose a professional with good credentials. If they are an AIPP member this is even better. There are many qualified and experienced photographers out there; you just need to find the perfect one for you. One reason why there are choices of photographers is everyone is different and you need to find your match. You need to find someone that will mesh with your ideas and personalities.
When you have found a few that you are interested in now is the time to interview them. Be prepared when you go to see them. Have a list of questions ready to ask as well as they style and designs you want. Make sure to get a complete look of their work. Not just a few pictures you want to see a full wedding shoot. Get a feel for the photographer and his ideas and suggestions. Keep in mind they have done this before and may be able to assist you with the ideas you have. They have done this before and are used to the pre wedding jitters and are very understanding. Trust me they want your day as perfect as you do.
Then you need to discuss prices. Feel free to ask for a quote, a wedding photographer will be more than willing to do this for you. Please do remember to ask about negatives and proofs, many forget this. Don’t rush your decision; tell them you will get back to them once you make a decision. Then talk to your future spouse and with all your information make your decision. May your day be everything it should be.
